TheTop Roof Repair Tips For You | ABIM Home Improvement Today

With no regard for where you reside, the possibilities are pretty good that you have experienced some unstable weather lately that has been tough on your home?s structure. Seasonal wind, hail, and rain typhoons coupled with some relentless heat waves in the summer, can all work in partnership to do serious damage to your home?s roof and leave your house looking less than pristine.

If you're uninterested in finding parts of your roof on the ground after even the mildest typhoon it might be time to have a professional roofing contractor take a look at your house and see whether it is time for a new roof or merely a roof mend job.

Don?t ignore the danger signs that your roof is in trouble. Those shingles that blow off in each storm are leaving your roof wide open to further damaged by the elements and once rain water gets into your home?s structure the damage can get extremely intensive very fast.

A pro roofing contractor should evaluate the damage from the roof itself not from the ground to get a better idea about what sort of roof repair job you could need. Regardless of how good they are, or how many roofs they have done in the area during the past, they still need to be on the roof itself to discover how much damage is present. Avoid hiring any contractor that does not want to go up on the roof for the assessment because this is a red flag that you shouldn't ignore.
Your roof contractor should be looking for loose or missing shingles, loose or missing roofing nails and any flashing that's missing or not properly placed. These are the 3 main ways that water can penetrate your roof and begin to cause structural damage.

If your roofer catches these things in time, you can most likely do a roof mend job instead of replacing the whole roof which can get very dear. But if your roof has been let go for a long period of time, you can end up spending as much to salvage it as you would to replace it.

Prior to making any decisions about your roof, get at least three approved roofing subcontractors to bid on your roof. This can give you not only a fair appraisal of the disposition of your roof it will also give you a fair idea about what your last price tag should look like.

It isn't strange for three bids to be massively different in price bracket so remember the details like the types of material used and how many roofers your contractor will be hiring to finish the job.

If you have been experiencing poor weather, you should not ignore your roof; make efforts to get it assessed for potential damage even if you're not picking your roof up off the ground in the morning. Your roof after all is all that stands between you and Mother Nature, so take care of it and it will take care of you.

Contact the trusted roofer in Atlanta for all your roofing wants. Weather Watch Roofing provides the best roofing in Atlanta and is an approved and insured roofing contractor and will help with any insurance claim from hail, wind or weather damage.

House speaker says Fla. primary likely Jan. 31 (AP)

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ? Florida is poised to hold its presidential primary on Jan. 31, a move that likely would mean an earlier start to the GOP nominating contests than what the national Republican Party had planned.

House Speaker Dean Cannon on Wednesday said that was the likely date for the Florida primary as the state works to ensure that it's the fifth state to vote behind the four that are the first to traditionally hold presidential primaries or caucuses ? Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.

The Republican said scheduling the primary for the last day of January would make Florida a major player in deciding the GOP nominee without jumping in front of those four states. He said Florida's hand was forced by other states that have moved up their dates, including Missouri, which has set its primary for Feb. 7.

"It's not a done deal," Cannon said in a telephone interview. He noted that the tentative date could change if states other than the first four try to jump or match Florida.

Cannon said he has been consulting with Republican Party officials and the offices of Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, and Republican Gov. Rick Scott.

Scott spokeswoman Karen Smith declined comment.

Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina have promised to protect their early voting status by moving their contests to earlier in the year if needed.

A special committee will meet Friday to formally select Florida's date. The eight voting members were selected by the two legislative leaders and Scott.

The panel consists of six current or former lawmakers, Republican ex-Gov. Bob Martinez and Scott's deputy chief of staff, Jenn Ungru. Secretary of State Kurt Browning is a ninth, nonvoting member and chairman.

The panel last week put off a decision so it could see what happens in other states, particularly South Carolina, usually the last of the four traditional states.

South Carolina Republican Party chairman Chad Connelly has sole authority to set a date. He has said he'll wait until just before Saturday's deadline and that he doesn't want to share a date with any other state, particularly one that breaks party rules.

A date earlier than March 6 for all but the four early states would violate Republican Party rules that allow only those traditional early-voting states to go before then. Other states that break the rule could lose half of their delegates to the party's national convention.

"My job is to protect the voters of Florida and worry about the Republican National Committee rules second," Cannon said.

He said that still might leave Florida with about as many or more delegates than the first four states combined.

The Democratic Party has a similar rule. To avoid violating it, Florida Democrats probably will not hold a primary because President Barack Obama is seeking re-election. The party might select its convention delegates at a caucus later on.

]]>

Create Name, logotype, or Website

Creating a name for your company goes hand in hand with developing a logotype that will distinguish the business concern and when it comes to logos, you should opt for a theme that is unique. Logos might be utilized in the promotion as well as marketing campaigns, so it must be widely recognized. For novices, imagine a logotype that would readily hint consumers about the attributes of the company ? such as if you?re in the foodstuff, automotive, or telecommunications industry. Hence, select graphics which are associated to the nature of the business concern and the merchandise which will be used to advertise.

Slogan or Tagline

Once you have a logo which you want, you can consider a catch phrase which would strengthen the theme you?re endeavoring to convey to your customers. Assuming you keep this part short and straightforward, this may be an effective branding tool for your business concern. This catch phrase will serve as an additional touch to your main message you?re endeavoring to give, thereby providing you an edge over your competitors and spotlighting the special sophistication or service that customers will be able to avail of.

an advantage that you might get with creating a tag line is that it is never permanent, not like the logotype, thus if the company wishes to employ a fresh marketing technique, you may readily alter your catch phrase in order to highlight the new marketing scheme. A catchword additionally opens up many opportunities to expand the marketing campaigns, when compared with the static status of industry logos because they are the ones harder to establish.

Special Services

While transmitting your business brand to the consumers, highlight the services which just you could offer. If you can provide a service which none of your competition could, then you create an advantage on your consumers on the same businesses. One example of that would be a time promise with your delivery services, if you?re in the food industry. Learning how to effectively employ these business concern branding strategies will aid in boost the company?s push and you will be that much closer to the desired company success.

Genetic variant linked to blocked heart arteries in patients with diabetes

ScienceDaily (Sep. 29, 2011) ? Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have identified the first genetic variant associated with severity of coronary artery disease in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Though this variant is not likely the cause of more severe coronary disease, the researchers say, it implicates a gene that could be. Such a gene has promise as a future target for treating coronary artery disease in diabetic patients.

"There is a knowledge gap in our understanding of diabetes and how it promotes both coronary artery disease and worse outcomes for patients who have diabetes," says cardiologist Richard G. Bach, MD, associate professor of medicine. "Any insights into what might be causing this may benefit patients in the future."

This genetic variant is a change in only one or two letters of a person's DNA sequence and is located in a gene called TLL1 that is known to be involved with inflammation and calcification of blood vessels. Implicating the TLL1 gene may help guide future research into understanding the mechanisms behind aggressive coronary artery disease in diabetic patients.

"TLL1 and the genes downstream of it have not been on anyone's radar when investigating diabetes or coronary artery disease," says cardiologist Sharon Cresci, MD, assistant professor of medicine and first author on the paper published in the Sept. 27 issue of the journal Circulation.

Of DNA's four-letter "alphabet," A, C, G and T, the most common sequence for this portion of the TLL1 gene is TT. On average, patients with CT in that portion of the sequence had 22 percent more coronary lesions blocking arteries that supply blood to the heart than those with the TT sequence. And those with CC had 37 percent more lesions than those with TT.

On an individual level, the researchers calculated how these variants change the number of lesions for the average patient in the study: a 63 year-old white male with a body mass index of 30 (borderline between overweight and obese).

With the TT sequence, that average patient would have 4.43 lesions. But if that same patient happened to have the CT sequence, the number of lesions increases to 5.02. And if the sequence is CC, the number increases to 5.46.

"The change in the absolute number of lesions in one person might be small," Cresci says. "However, this is one variant in the grand scheme of everything else -- the rest of the person's genome and all of the environmental factors. For one variant, it has a remarkably strong correlation to the severity of coronary disease."

Indeed, the variant predicted the extent of the patient's coronary artery disease better than the familiar clinical factors typically used to assess risk of blocked arteries, such as age, smoking status, body mass index and blood pressure.

The patients in this study were participants in a worldwide clinical trial called BARI 2D, which stands for Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation 2 Diabetes. Between 2001-08, this multi-center trial, led by the University of Pittsburgh, investigated treatment strategies for patients with both type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Bach helped lead the portion of the study conducted at Washington University Medical Center, along with Ronald J. Krone, MD, professor of medicine, and Janet B. McGill, MD, professor of medicine and a co-author of the paper.

All patients in the study had both type 2 diabetes and established coronary artery disease. But their arteries were not so congested that they required immediate bypass surgery. A subset of patients in BARI 2D agreed to participate in the genetic portion of the study and have their DNA sequenced.

After identifying the TLL1 variant associated with more blocked arteries in these patients, the researchers verified their results in two independent populations of diabetic patients -- those in the TRIUMPH study (Translational Research Investigating Underlying Disparities in Acute Myocardial Infarction Patients' Health Status), whose coronary disease was assessed with an angiogram (like BARI 2D) and those in the Family Heart Study, whose disease was evaluated with a coronary CT scan.

"We feel this is a strength of our study," Cresci says. "We looked at the extent of coronary artery disease with two different imaging methods in three independent patient populations and got the same results."

In comparing their findings to the TRIUMPH and Family Heart Study results, they also included participants who did not have diabetes. In those individuals, the same genetic variant did not significantly correlate with the extent of coronary disease. Such findings support the idea that coronary artery disease in diabetic patients is inherently different from the disease in the rest of the population.

"The progression and behavior of coronary artery disease appears uniquely aggressive in patients with diabetes," Bach says. "The disease appears to progress more rapidly and be much more widespread than in patients who do not have diabetes."

The researchers also note that they were able to see this association only in white patients. BARI 2D included African-American participants, but the smaller sample size meant no conclusions could be drawn about whether the association holds true in this group.

Ultimately, a major goal is to treat patients based on their specific genetics.

"In an ideal situation, you would select drug treatment based on the individual's DNA sequence," Cresci says. "Maybe the people with the TT genotype would get one medication, but the ones with CC would get different therapeutics. Obviously, we're a long way from that, but that's where we would like to be. And that is where work like this is going."

Few Treatments for Wrist Pain

Wrist Pain: Our hands, by design, were not intended for weight bearing, so it?s no wonder that many of us experience pain or discomfort when assuming those Pilates or yoga positions that require us to do just that -bear body weight on our hands. Discomfort may simply be a result of mild limitations in wrist range of motion, improper alignment of shoulders, arms and hands or reduced core and arm strength. Gentle and gradual stretching and strengthening exercises, along with proper body alignment and weight distribution may reduce your wrist discomfort in weight bearing positions. However, for some of us, even with good strength and proper form wrist pain persists. A close look at the anatomy of the hand reveals why.

Hand Anatomy: The hand is designed more for mobility than stability. It is composed of 27 small bones, muscles and ligaments that allow for a large amount of movement and dexterity, enabling us to perform a multitude of daily activities requiring fine precision and coordination. The two bones of the lower arm, the radius and ulna, meet at the carpal bones of the hand to form the wrist. Unlike the foot the hand does not have a large bone cushioned with a fat pad for bearing weight, but has small bones surrounded by soft tissue, including the nerve and blood supply. The median nerve crosses the wrist through the carpal tunnel. These soft tissues of the wrist, including the ligaments and tendons, are subject to strain when we are weight bearing on a fully extended wrist such as in a push-up position.

The Culprits: As a simplification, the common causes of wrist pain are grouped into 4 categories:

  1. Overuse: too much repetitive movement or joint impact
  2. Injury: wrist fractures, strains & sprains
  3. Lack of conditioning: weak muscles, poor range of motion, improper form
  4. Aging or Disease: arthritic changes in the joints, inflammation, diabetes etc.

Which category does your wrist pain originate from?

Overuse: One common cause of wrist pain is Overuse, clinically known as RSI ? Repetitive Stress (or Strain) Injury. Long periods performing the same movements, such as typing on a computer, playing a musical instrument or doing sun salutations, can lead to RSI. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) a leading cause of wrist pain is grouped in the RSI category.

What do you do about RSI?

An important first step in treating an overuse injury is to rest ? stop doing what is causing you pain to allow healing time. The reality, however, is that many of our repetitive movements are related to our livelihood such as data input, graphic design, dental hygiene, massage therapist or fitness instructor, so to stop completely might result in a few bounced checks. If complete rest isn?t an option, two ways to decrease repetitive joint stress are through task and schedule modification.

Suggestion One: Modify Your Activity

Once you?ve identified the specific task(s) that?s aggravating your wrists (or other joints) look at how frequently or for what duration you?re performing this task.

Modify your Schedule: The objective of modifying your schedule is to reduce how often and how long you spend doing the pain inducing task. Urgent deadlines, productivity ratings or financial stress are real factors that contribute to overuse injuries. Many smart industries have implemented job rotation and other programs to reduce RSI in the workplace, thus saving money on workman?s compensation claims and lost productivity. Practical examples for modifying your schedule may include:

1) Part Time Work: a schedule of Monday, Wednesday and Friday will allow a day of rest in between.

2) Plan Ahead: instead of spending 6 hours banging out a report on the computer spread it out over 4 days for 1 ? hour each day.

3) Set Time Limits: Break up the problem task into shorter time segments with rest and stretch breaks built into your day.

4) Job Sharing / Rotation: Can you recruit a co-worker to assist you or swap tasks with? Look at all options for creative scheduling.

Modify the Task: The objective here is to use an alternate method to accomplish the task, which may require a different set of muscles or reduce muscle tension and joint stress.

1) Change the Method: If you?re a fitness instructor with a wrist injury, give verbal directions instead of demonstrations. If you spend your day on the computer consciously reduce keyboard time by limiting your email correspondence ? pick up the phone and make a quick call instead.

2) Change or Modify the Tool: Examples include using a track ball instead of a mouse, substitute an electric tool for a hand tool and increasing the diameter of the tool to open the grasp of the fingers and thumb.

3) Modify your Body Position: Use an ergonomic keyboard, set up your ?work station? optimally for your body and alternate standing with sitting.

4) Use your non-dominant hand: If your wrist pain is primarily in your dominant hand try to develop the skill to accomplish the task with your non-dominant hand. Start with something simple like stirring while cooking or dialing the phone then work towards using your computer mouse with your opposing hand. This may be challenging but is very useful and good for your coordination.

Suggestion Two: Incorporate frequent stretch breaks into your day.

Whether it?s an occupation or leisure pursuit that?s resulting in RSI, do strengthening and stretches that move your body, limbs and joints in the opposite direction of the repetitive motions you?re engaged in. Computer use is a big culprit of wrist pain, since many people now spend hours of their day at a keyboard and monitor. The typical computer posture takes its toll on your back, neck, arms and hands -possibly resulting in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Break up long hours at the computer by scheduling intermittent breaks to stand up, move around and stretch. Do these simple stretches several times a day in standing or from the comfort of your chair.

Hold each stretch for 3 to 5 deep breaths:

1) Stretch shoulder and arms: Reach back from the shoulder rotating the spine, straighten your elbow and rotate your palm up, extend the wrist slightly or keep neutral then straighten and spread the fingers apart. Deepen the stretch by rotating the neck so your face is turned away from your stretched arm. Repeat with the other arm.

2) Rotate both wrists several times clockwise then counter clockwise.

3) Stretch finger flexors: Extend fingers and place them together in a prayer position. Press fingers firmly together and spread them apart keeping fingers straight. To increase the stretch, gently pull the wrists apart 1 or 2 inches while keeping fingers together.

4) Stretch wrist in extension: Continue in prayer position with fingers and wrists pressed together. Start with your finger tips at your chin, and then slowly slide hands down towards your waist keeping the wrists pressed together. Go as far as you can comfortably & hold stretch for several breaths. If you feel discomfort in your thumbs simply cross them on top each other instead of pressing together.

5) Stretch wrist in flexion: Flip your hands over so the backs of your hands and fingers are touching and pointing down. Start with your hands at your waist and move slowly up to chest height keeping the backs of the hands pressed together. Fingers dangle loosely while the top of the wrist joints are stretched.

6) Gently shake shoulders, arms, wrists and fingers.

This series of stretches, each held for 5 deep breaths, only take a total of 3 minutes to do! A simple and healthy way to incorporate this routine into your day is to drink lots of water. Every time you get up for a bathroom break, do your stretches before resuming work.

Recap

Is wrist pain interfering with your fitness pursuits, work or life? If so, what?s the culprit? Too much keyboarding, weight bearing on your hands or other repetitive activity may be an underlying cause of your wrist pain. If you have an overuse injury ? first try to rest! Next modify the activity through creative scheduling and use of alternative methods, tools or props. It?s also important to develop a stretching & strengthening program to counteract the negative effects of repetitive movements on muscles and joints. Our bodies were designed to move in a multitude of directions, so mix it up and bring some balance and variety into your weekly routine. You know what they say?Variety is the Spice of Life!

Disclaimer: If you have significant wrist pain resulting from a more serious issue such as joint inflammation, arthritis, carpel tunnel syndrome, previous fractures or surgeries of the wrist, it is essential that you consult your health care practitioner prior to beginning a wrist exercise program, Pilates or yoga practice.

Paula Wilbert, Occupational Therapist and Joint Protection Products founder, developed Wrist Assured Gloves (WAGs) to solve a personal wrist injury. The wrist pain she experienced after landing on both hands while playing soccer with her 6 year old son, interfered with her Pilates and yoga practice, so she instinctively tapped 25 years as an occupational therapist to create WAGs.

Paula knew that if she could find a way to keep her wrists from fully extending she would be able to move easily into yoga and Pilates poses, such as chatturanga and side plank, without experiencing intense wrist pain. The contoured, wedged gel pad she invented does just that. Firm, yet comfortable, the gel pads sewn into sporty machine washable gloves and are a practical solution to a common problem. US and Foreign Patents are pending. WAGs are available at http://www.getwags.com

Romo, Bailey lead Cowboys past Redskins 18-16 (AP)

ARLINGTON, Texas ? Tony Romo's broken rib hurt so much he needed a second pain-killing injection. His center had a tendency to snap the ball too soon or to the wrong spot. And he couldn't get into the end zone no matter what, not even with a first down on the 2-yard line.

Yet Romo and the Dallas Cowboys did the only thing that mattered. They won.

Dan Bailey kicked six field goals, including a go-ahead 40-yarder with 1:52 left, and linebacker Anthony Spencer forced a fumble that teammate Sean Lee recovered with 28 seconds left, giving the Cowboys an 18-16 victory over the Washington Redskins on Monday night.

"It feels good right now because we won," Romo said, smiling and wincing. "I'll be all right."

Romo was 22 of 36 for 255 yards. His best stat was simply lasting all four quarters.

The fact that he needed a second injection could explain the quarter-sized blotch of blood that appeared on his jersey above his left hip during the game. After the game, he joked that his new bride forced him to play, saying, "I can't have a weak husband lying around the house."

"I want to play," Romo said. "We only get to go out and do this 16 times, 16 days out of 365 days a year. You want to be out there. You put so much effort, when you go, you go."

Romo was hardly hit in the first half, then the Redskins got in several crushing blows starting just after halftime. That's also when the snaps became an issue. He couldn't hide his frustration with new center Phil Costa, and clearly wasn't happy with receiver Kevin Ogletree after an incompletion at the end of the drive that reached the 2; that failure forced Dallas to settle for its fifth field goal and a 16-15 deficit instead of a go-ahead touchdown.

Rob Ryan's re-energized Dallas defense got the ball back quickly, and Romo took advantage. Another bad snap left the Cowboys with a third-and-21, and Romo followed with a rollout to his right and a deep pass to Dez Bryant for a 30-yard gain. Another 15 yards were tacked on because of a facemask penalty on the beaten defender ? cornerback DeAngelo Hall, who last week said he was hoping "to put my helmet on whatever's hurt" on Romo and all other wounded Cowboys.

Hall had plenty more to say after the game. In an expletive-filled interview, he questioned the eight-man front on Bryant's catch and the official's decision to flag him.

"I told the ref after that call, that might have been his worst call of the game," Hall said. "He's going to get demerit points for that call. Because that wasn't no facemask."

When Washington quarterback Rex Grossman's fumble was recovered by Lee, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett dropped to a knee and pumped his fist wildly. He had good reason to celebrate: Dallas was about to be 2-1, guaranteeing no repeat of last year's miserable 1-7 start. The Cowboys are even tied for first place in the NFC East, along with Washington (2-1), which was seeking its first 3-0 start since 2005.

"We're better than last year ? already," Dallas linebacker Bradie James said.

This was the second straight game that a Romo-Bailey tandem pulled out a victory. Against San Francisco a week ago Sunday, Bailey made a tying field goal at the end of regulation, then the winner in overtime.

Bailey's other kicks Monday night covered 41 (twice), 32, 27 and 23 yards.

"We had good snaps, good holds, great protection. I had the easy job," said Bailey, an undrafted rookie who was named the nation's top kicker in college last season at Oklahoma State. "Whenever you can string a couple of kicks together, it's a confidence booster."

Romo wasn't the only Dallas player who gutted it out.

Bryant missed the previous game with a thigh injury, yet had four catches for 63 yards. Felix Jones, who separated a shoulder against the 49ers, ran for a career-high 115 yards and caught three passes for 40 more. Jason Witten fought through a rib injury to catch six passes for 60 yards.

"It wasn't a perfect performance by any means, but enough to win the game," Garrett said.

The Dallas defense limited the Redskins to field goals on two of their first three drives, the latter reaching the Dallas 9.

Grossman really only had one solid drive, a 76-yarder capped by a 1-yard touchdown pass to Tim Hightower that put Washington up 16-9. The Redskins never even crossed midfield after that, punting on three straight drives then losing the fumble.

"It feels like the waste of a week," tight end Chris Cooley said. "We're capable of winning a division game on the road. I'm disappointed with the way we finished."

Grossman was 22 of 37 for 250 yards. He was sacked three times ? once by DeMarcus Ware, his NFL-leading fifth ? and threw an interception.

Explaining his game-deciding fumble, Grossman said, "I was trying to make a play. I felt like I could get the ball to Santana (Moss). I obviously couldn't."

Most of the Redskins' points came from Graham Gano, who made field goals of 50, 46 and 27 yards. Another was blocked after a poor hold.

"We're going to find out what type of football team we have," Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. "When you lose like that it hurts. We don't have time to feel sorry for yourself."

Notes: This was Dallas' ninth straight game decided by three points or less. ... Dallas improved to just 9-8 at Cowboys Stadium. The Redskins are 0-3. ... Bailey had the most field goals for Dallas since Billy Cundiff kicked seven in 2003. ... Washington's LaRon Landry had four tackles and forced a fumble in his first game since November because of injuries. ... This was the 15th Dallas-Washington game on a Monday night. The only teams that have met more are Denver-Raiders, 16 times.

(AP) ? Greece will receive its next batch of bailout loans in time to avoid a disastrous default, the finance minister said Tuesday, as stock markets rallied on hopes that the prime minister will discuss new ways of solving the crisis with Germany's leader later in the day.

Reports that European leaders are considering bolder moves to relieve Greece and other countries of their debt burden have buoyed spirits in financial markets, though officials in Chancellor Angela Merkel's government have downplayed such speculation.

The current plan is to have Greece implement painful debt-reduction measures in exchange for rescue loans.

Greece's international creditors are holding up payment of the next batch of those loans until a review of the reforms is completed in the coming days. Without the money, Greece faces bankruptcy in mid-October, potentially sending shock waves through the financial sector in Europe and abroad.

"I am very confident in ... the disbursement of the sixth tranche," Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos said, speaking above the sound of chanting from protesting tax office workers outside the ministry, who blew whistles and set off a fake siren. "But we must do what has been agreed."

The minister said the country had already made great efforts to achieve its fiscal targets, but that a "hyper-effort" was necessary to fully meet its commitments.

Some experts, however, say the current course of austerity is untenable and that Greece will need bigger debt relief. Analysts say that could be achieved by imposing tougher losses on private bondholders, boosting capital in European banks that would take such losses, and increasing the size of the rescue fund.

Greece had originally expected debt inspectors from the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank and the European Commission to complete a review of its finances in September and approve the sixth installment of loans from its euro110 billion ($149 billion) bailout.

But the inspectors, known collectively as the troika, suspended their review earlier this month amid talk of missed targets.

Venizelos said the troika would return to Athens this week, and that the next bailout installment, worth euro8 billion ($10.8 billion), would be paid out in time.

In Berlin, Greek premier George Papandreou told a conference of the Federation of German Industries that "we are borrowing to repay" ? but also stressed that Europe needs to show it can get its act together.

"I can guarantee that Greece will live up to all its commitments," Papandreou said ahead of an evening meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel. He promised that Greeks will "fight our way back to growth and prosperity."

The government recently announced new debt-reducing measures, including pension cuts and tax hikes, fueling outrage among Greeks who have suffered through a year of austerity. Lawmakers are to vote Tuesday night on a new property tax.

Unions have responded with repeated strikes and protests. Public transport workers walked off the job Tuesday for two days, and were to be joined by taxi drivers on Wednesday. Tax office workers were also on strike.

Given the sacrifices being made by ordinary Greeks, Papandreou said that the "persistent criticisms leveled against Greece are deeply frustrating."

"You as businesspeople, you know that inspiration, innovation and motivation are important parts of success," he told representatives of Germany's leading industries. "If people feel only punishment and scorn, this crisis will not become an opportunity ? it will become a lost cause."

He added that Europe needs to prove it can get its act together. Germany, Europe's biggest economy, has been a sometimes-reluctant leader of the rescue efforts.

"We must prove to the markets that we have a firm grip on the debt crisis and that we are determined to resolve it together," he said.

Merkel, also speaking at the industry forum, pledged support for Greece but didn't promise any specific new measures. She expressed "absolute respect" for structural reforms pushed through by Papandreou's government.

"The all-important thing is ? and we will provide every assistance that is wanted from the German side ? that Greece wins back confidence; that we get out of this terrible development that there is bad news every month; and that the impression arises on the markets that Greece is on the right track," she said.

Merkel said Germany would do what it can, whether through private industry or government efforts.

However, she once again rejected the idea of pooling European countries' debt ? for example by issuing joint so-called eurobonds. And she said Germany is "not available" for further economic stimulus programs.

On Thursday, Germany's parliament is to vote on beefing up the powers and lending capacity of the eurozone's euro440 billion ($595 billion) rescue fund ? a facility that already has intervened to help Ireland and Portugal.

German officials, facing distaste within Merkel's center-right coalition at the idea of endless bailouts, have sought to cool down expectations of further increases anytime soon.

Spanish Finance Minister Elena Salgado denied market speculation that the European Union is considering raising the size of the fund to euro2 trillion ($2.7 trillion) ? saying in a television interview that "it is not on the table, nor has it been discussed."

BMW's Active Sound Design is like putting your head under the hood of the new M5

We know EVs of the future will lose their ability to silently kill, but how about replicating engine noise for the enjoyment of bonafide petrolheads? Eagle-eyed readers will note that's a promised feature of the upcoming (but ever-delayed) Fisker Karma, but here beating it to market is BMW's upcoming M5 -- sort of. München's implementation coined "Active Sound Design," won't blast engine machinations on the outside, but instead internally overlays the harmonic soundtrack of the twin turbo V8 over internal speakers as you drive. That audial racket is based on throttle position, engine revs and speed, and gets even louder when the car is set in Sport or Sport+ modes. No word on if you'll be able to customize with other soundtracks (a la Karma), but there's nothing a little enthusiast hackery can't fix...

Debt Management Advice : Can Really Take your Onus on Multiple ...

Debt Management Advice : Can Really Take your Onus on Multiple Debts

Debt management isn?t just a fancy way of borrowing from Peter to pay Paul or taking out an even larger loan to settle money owed. Debt management and debt management programs play a vital role in helping individuals and companies get to grips with the state of their finances and cope with their financial obligations. It?s a way of cutting through the fear and concern surrounding debt and getting to the very heart of how best to organise it so that it can be repaid as cost effectively and as efficiently as possible.

It?s worth remembering too that when it comes to debt it isn?t just the creditors who suffer through not being paid what they are due. Debt management services are there as much to help alleviate the stress and the pain of a situation from the debtor?s perspective. Problems that if left unmanaged and allowed to continue to run their natural course might easily spiral out of control and make the situation worse for all parties. If you owe money that you are finding difficult to repay or have been in that situation in the past then you will know how unpleasant it can be. It?s in no-one?s interests for debt to remain unpaid and unmanaged.

One more thing to bear in mind is that if you do find yourself in the unfortunate position of having to seek debt management, UK agencies that are impartial and independent are on hand to help you avoid the less scrupulous organisations that thrive on people?s financial weakness. These less scrupulous organisations may, if you are not careful, leave you in a significantly worse state than the one you started in. In other words, if you are in the difficult position of owing money that you are struggling to repay and find yourself with limited options, then you are potentially vulnerable to exploitation. Going to debt management services that have no vested interest in partisan support for one side or the other can help you avoid that situation.

Fortunately when it comes to debt management. UK consumers are lucky enough to have a wide range of free, independent and experienced debt management programs offering experienced and helpful debt management advice and guidance to help you turn your situation around.

Home Based Enterprises and the Fax Machine | Voice Talent Art

Approximately 30 years ago an innovative device was introduced to the business world, which changed the character of communications forever and the work from home office. This device was the fax. Today many people may think that faxes have been totally replaced by the use of e-mail but they are basically wrong. Rather than being replaced, the fax is basically being reinvented, with new methods of receiving and sending hard documents coming to life.

The importance of the fax machine was its capability to send images and writing long distances. Before the arrival of computer communications the only possible way folk could get in touch with one another was over the phone. While this was great for casual conversations, when it came to finalizing drafts of documents, or approving of plan designs oral words just didn?t cut it.

The fax permitted folk to broadcast long documents to each other in their entirety. Since the fax was fundamentally a copy machine that sent the copy to another location, you were always assured of the accuracy of the image coming thru. There were some distortions in some images, but that was sometimes due to ink and printing problems instead of the actual transmission.

The fax machine replaced a lot of expedited delivery services that were created to be certain that important documents got to their intended receiver within 24 hours. The fax permitted folks to accomplish the same goal in a matter of a couple of seconds for a fraction of the price. Today, e-mail is doing something similar to the fax industry.

If you run a home run enterprise then lots of your fax needs can be taken care of with a scanner and email. Many home based business owners are choosing to fully ignore a facsimile machine in place of digital copies. This permits them to forgo the cost of the machine, the printer cartridge, the paper, and the land phone line you will need to operate everything.

However there are some cases where an individual or entity will not accept a scanned emailed copy of the image. This occurs regularly with government agencies or firms with standard practices that hail back to the time when faxes were still the standard system of engaging in business. Conversely you might find some firms or people that cannot send scanned e-mail and so will have to fax you the document in order to get it to you.

Luckily there are several solutions for this. The simplest is to make contact with a local print shop, ups store, or office supply chain store. These places will most likely have a public fax where you can send and receive faxes for a minimal charge. As long as you tell them a fax is coming in they may generally save it for you till you can receive it. The downside to these solutions is that they aren?t awfully private and so delicate info might be at risk when sending in this manner.

Another fax solution for modern home enterprises is to get a virtual fax. This is a service that may offer you a local telephone number where folk can send you documents. They can also regularly take scanned documents and fax them to machines so they print out as hard copies.

Depending on the plan you can frequently get these services for only one or two dollars a month. In a number of cases you will want to just receive faxes, while in others you?ll need to be in a position to send and receive. You may regularly bundle a virtual fax service with a toll free number.

Andrew James has proactively been involved in the work from home industry for over 20 years. While the technology used to conduct this type of business has changed greatly in that time, the elements behind creating and operating a successful home-based business stay the same. Q&A: I need low fat / low cal slow cooker ... - The Food And Drinks Blog

Question by helpmebfree123: I need low fat / low cal slow cooker recipes??
Does anyone have any simple, but low fat slow cooker recipes? And please dont just find a recipe online and post it here. I am capable of looking up recipes myself but nothing I found sounded good? or very easy.

Best answer:

Answer by Shawn F
try this , there is only 3 things in it, use any bbq sauce you want, but i have not tried diet coke, but that would be less calories.

INGREDIENTS:
Chicken (boneless, skinless breasts or pieces)
1 cup BBQ sauce
1 cup coke
PREPARATION:
Place chicken in the pot and add one cup of your favorite bbq sauce and 1 cup of coke (plain old Coca-Cola). Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours. The carbonation in the coke tenderizes the meat. I also use this combination with butterfly pork chops.

(AP) ? In the small crowded Los Angeles courtroom, 6-foot-5 (1.95-meter) Dr. Conrad Murray is an imposing figure. Another imposing figure will loom over the room on Tuesday: the persona of the man he is accused of killing, Michael Jackson.

One of the most famous pop stars of all time will be present in the words of those who knew him, in snippets of video and in the faces of his famous family watching from the courtroom gallery.

The somber-faced Murray has said little in public, except that he most definitely did not cause Jackson's death.

"Your honor, I am an innocent man," Murray said quietly at his arraignment last January. "I definitely plead not guilty."

Murray, 58, is charged with involuntary manslaughter, could face four years in prison and lose his medical license.

Prosecutors will portray him as a greedy, incompetent doctor with a messy personal life who signed on as Jackson's personal physician for $150,000 a month to save himself from financial ruin. The defense says he was Jackson's friend, a capable protector of the singer's health, prepared to travel with him to Europe on his tour, and is still mourning the death.

One of Murray's greatest assets may be what prosecutors say he wasn't good at: being a doctor.

"Jurors generally believe doctors," said attorney Harland Braun, who has defended many doctors in court. "They have had to trust doctors over a lifetime. What the defense has to do is wrap him in the general feeling that doctors are good people. They care about their patients and he was not indifferent to Michael's welfare."

When the trial starts, Jacksons' family will sit in a row in the courtroom. They wanted Murray charged with murder.

Edward Chernoff, the lead defense lawyer, said Murray feels the pressure.

"He feels like David in the David and Goliath story but he doesn't have a slingshot because of the rulings that took his slingshot away," said Chernoff, reacting last month to decisions barring chunks of evidence the defense wanted to present about Jackson's history of drug use.

Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor, who is presiding over the trial, has since instructed lawyers to refrain from commenting on his rulings.

While witnesses will come and go, Chernoff is aware that the superstar's shadow will be hanging over the trial. He's concerned too about the fans who have demonized Murray and are expected to demonstrate outside the courthouse.

"If they love Michael Jackson, what do they think Michael would say about all this?" he asked. "I think he would say, 'Leave the man alone.' And that's one of the reasons they love Michael."

Following opening statements by both sides, the first prosecution witness, choreographer and director Kenny Ortega, will take jurors into Jackson's life during the crucial weeks he was rehearsing for his landmark "This Is It" concert. Video clips from the posthumous rehearsal film could be included in his testimony.

Will Murray testify in his own defense? Nobody is saying. Although considered a dangerous strategy, it might be the only way for him to show jurors his personality.

Murray told his story in a three-hour interview with police two days after Jackson's death but the transcript remains sealed. Early on, he posted a short video on YouTube saying, "I have done all I can do. I told the truth, and I have faith the truth will prevail."

The truth, in one way or another, involves the drug propofol, which caused Jackson's death. Prosecutors say Murray was grossly negligent in administering the hospital drug in a private home. Defense lawyers will try to prove that Jackson caused his own death by drinking a dose when Murray was out of the room.

It's a risky strategy that requires depicting Jackson as a self -centered, demanding celebrity while portraying Murray as a kindly doctor victimized by his patient. "They will be doing a little balancing act trying to devalue Michael without attacking him," said Thomas Mesereau Jr., the lawyer who won Jackson's acquittal in a 2005 molestation trial.

The defense team also will be fighting what jurors may have heard about Murray's complicated love life and his distressed financial affairs.

Born in St. Andrews, Grenada, he lived with his poor farmer grandparents, going to school barefoot because they could not afford shoes for him. At the age of seven, he moved to Trinidad and Tobago to live with his mother and stepfather. He never met his father, a physician, until he moved to the U.S. in search of higher education in 1978.

After getting his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, he trained at various hospitals and then pursued a specialty in interventional cardiology. In 1999, Murray moved to Las Vegas, opened a storefront medical practice and another in Houston where his father practiced. He also had a license in California, which is now suspended.

Former patients speak of his kind, reassuring manner. "He would go over tests with me. He would say, 'There's nothing to be afraid of.' He cares about his patients, that old-fashioned care, like a real doctor," said Donna Digiacomo of Las Vegas.

Murray met Jackson when the singer took one of his children to see him for treatment in 2008. Murray quickly became his doctor and friend. At the time, Murray was in a $780,000 financial hole, with unpaid debts and bill collection lawsuits. Then, the $150,000-per-month job came along.

Mesereau, the lawyer who won Jackson's acquittal, said of Murray: "I think when he met Michael Jackson he thought he had hit the lottery and was not going to do anything to jeopardize his role. Because he refused to say no, in my opinion, he cost Michael Jackson his life."

Murray was never paid a cent.
